EVEN WITCHES ARE BULLIED!

What comes to mind when you think of a witch. Do you see an ugly old hag over a boiling caldron? Do you think all witches are other worldly women who ride around town on their brooms?

Not true of today’s witches. Witches today are regular men and women who want to live in harmony with nature. Some, though not all, practice the Wiccan religion, others just consider themselves Pagan and I have even met a couple Christian witches. They have the same hopes and dreams and family issues as you and I . I realized this when I read a letter from a woman who practices witchcraft and whose child was being bullied at school. Not because she was a witch but because her child is heavy set.

Some of my readers may know that I was an elementary school principal in my past life and after retiring I wrote several parenting books which can still be found on my other website www.project-parenting.com. One of my most popular books is called the Bully Maze  Finding A Way Out in which I rovide chilldren simple strategies for effectively dealing with bullying.

Anyway, as I am currently creating fictional characters who are all witches in the series The Witches Of New Moon Beach, I started to wonder how the Wiccan community might handle bullying and I found an interesting spell which I will share with you. Of course I’m always going to encourage you to talk to your school principal and teachers first and consider trying some of the strategies I’ve outlined in my book, I thought this was just another twist on dealing with the problem. The choice is yours!

The Witches Spell for Nov. 8th: Spell to Protect Children from Bullies

Until you sort out your practical plan of action, protect your child with this spell:
Make or purchase a poppet. These are featureless rag dolls usually made of muslin. They can sometimes be found at hobby or craft stores.
Fill it with any combination of the following protective herbs:
Lavender
Chamomile
Rose Petals
Clover
Angelica
Comfrey
Elecampane
Mugwort
Add a few of your child’s hairs or nail clippings.
Place the poppet on your altar and arrange 9 pink candles in a circle around it. In between each candle place a clear quartz crystal.
Light each candle and say, “Goddess (God, protective angels or other powerful spirit), protect my child with light and love.”
Imagine a pink cloud enveloping the poppet and radiating a protective glow.
When the candles have burned down. Wrap the poppet in a pink cloth and place it in a drawer where it will be safe.

I guess this goes to show that even witches can be bullied!

What the heck does Solvang have to do with it?

I shared this story in my July newsletter and several people encouraged me to include it in a blog. So here goes:
July has been a crazy month around my house. I finished my first series The Witches of New Moon Beach and started on both a prequel and a sequel. If you can’t tell, I really like the Merriman family - the family of witches about whom I write.  For those of you who don’t know me I am new to the world of fiction writing. I retired a couple years ago after completing 10 years as an elementary school principal - my favorite job ever. After leaving the elementary playground behind, I wrote five parenting books on topics from bullying to getting your child ready for kindergarten. As much as I loved that genre, I really wanted to try my hand at fiction writing. Couple my desire to write with my interest in white magic and a trip to Solvang and The Witches of New Moon Beach came to life.

What did Solvang have to do with it? A few months after my retirement my husband and I took a trip up to Solvang. As we were walking around town, munching on those awesome butter cookies they sell in every bakery in that city, I came upon a very unusual shop named The Mystic Merchant. I hadn’t planned on going there; in fact I hadn’t even been aware that shops like this existed. Somehow I was drawn in and quickly found a shop filled with all sorts of curious bits and pieces including; healing stones, pendants, candles, spell making goodies, books and some really cool people. While my husband patiently waited outside I spoke with an interesting woman who told me that although she was not a Wiccan, she did practice white magic. She patiently answered my questions and directed me towards some great books which I have found helpful in writing my stories. I was stunned at how normal she was. I had always falsely assumed that anyone who was involved with witchcraft would look and act differently. There was no black hat, no cackle, no broom - just a beautiful young blonde woman who seemed to be an everyday lover of nature. And so I began to wonder what life would really be like if one was to live in a family of witches. Not too long after my visit, the Merriman family grew out of my inquisitiveness.
I visited The Mystic Merchant again last week and came home with a great book on healing crystals and a few other goodies. This is a picture I took while there. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that there was another customer taking a picture at the same time! he got me and I got him!
Morning Magic is currently free on Smashwords and should be soon on Amazon. Thanks for your support! Don't forget to read the other two books in the series. My favorite is Midnight Madness!

The other day I shared a quote with you -"Where there is woman  There is magic" and after posting it I had several experiences that really made me stop and think about what this quote really means.

I have never really thought of myself as someone with magic in me but I had an epiphany yesterday when I ran into a friend who is going through some very tough times. After listening to her and sharing a few suggestions, a lot of laughs and a hug she told me that she felt so much better. Her exact words caught me off guard. She said, "Thank you for sharing your magic with me." I immediately asked her if she had read my blog and she assured me that she had not. So, yeah, maybe I do have a little magic in me to share. But so do you!

I started thinking about other women who have shared their "magic" with me. A colleague at work, a neighbor, my past office manager, the girl who loaded my bag at the grocery store. Each of these women shared a smile, words of encouragement, support. Some made me laugh, some made me cry and all of them changed my day for the better. That must be magic!

So what about you? Do you have a little magic to spare? Praise a waitress for taking care of you today, visit a lonely neighbor, offer to babysit for a friend, or just share a smile, words of gratitude or a hug. The thing about sharing magic is that it bounces right back at you and you feel as good as the one you shared it with.
