I went to Trader Joe’s yesterday and was so happy to see that all of their pumpkins were out. Of course I had to grab a couple different ones to bring home. Although my kids are all grown adults and out of the house, I just couldn’t resist bringing a pumpkin or two home and revisiting a few, fun, fall memories. I bet you have a few of these same memories!
Going to the pumpkin patch and watching the joy as each of my kids selected their own pumpkin and then tried to carry it out! They always wanted the biggest ones.
Watching my kids and their dad cut up the pumpkins - Dad was so much better at helping the kids carve than I was. It was a crazy, fun- filled, mess making afternoon!
Trying to make pumpkin pie from a whole pumpkin the first year we were married - disastrous. Last time I ever tried that!!
Sending my children off to school with a little pumpkin for their teacher.
As a parent who just never really got Halloween - costumes were a real struggle for me. Whether it was picking a costume out of a box or trying to create one from scratch I often thought that my kids wished they had a more clued in mom - or at least one with a bigger check book!
Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the cooler air, baking, opening the door to the sound of “trick or treat!” and of course, pumpkins. But what I love most are the warm memories I have of my kids as they experienced the changing seasons. Carving a pumpkin just isn’t the same without them around to make a mess with! Enjoy your time together while your kids are little!
