Okay, so I’ve learned a lot ……….

Whoever said that writing a fiction series was easy? It takes a lot of time, energy, commitment and some very strong auditory skills. I know that you understand the time, energy and commitment demands, but why are strong auditory skills required? Because if you listen to and follow even half of the  advice that’s out there, mistakes won’t happen quite as easily.

But did I listen, did I actually hear the advice I was being given? Did I even read one of the hundreds of help blogs out there? Well kind- of -sorta. I mean I heard it, saw it or read at least half of it, but still I barreled through without taking all of the advice into account.

Example:     I wrote three books - yeah! Then I published three books in hard copy on Create Space. Did I follow their advice and order a proof copy? NO.
Did I take the time to electronically proof their copy using their technology - NO. Did I go ahead and order several copies in anticipation of giving some away YES. What? I was excited and not thinking clearly!

Wasn’t I surprised when I received the books and the font was so small that several readers told me they would need a magnifying glass to read their copy. YIKES! No one’s fault but my own. So today, I spent three hours rectifying the situation. I then ordered a proof copy of each of the books. When I receive the copies I will diligently review each one before I order any more.
Every day I make mistakes and every day I learn from them. I just wish I’d start listening more carefully to the help that’s out there. Then maybe I wouldn’t make so darn many mistakes. Another day - another set of things to learn.
